As a result of my leather carving experience,
the technique of repousse' appealed to me because of their similarity in
execution and appearance.
Repousse' consists of using various shaped punches and a hammer
to bring portion into concavity. The parts brought into relief are
worked from the back of the metal and the parts that are concave, or
depressed, are worked from the front. The silver jewelry featured here
are examples of this direct metal art.
It was while working silver in this manner that I began to ponder the possibility
of doing repousse' in steel. |
